The Benin kingdom was one of the best known civilization in pre-colonial Nigeria.
The Oba (King) is the traditional head of the present day Benin, lgwe festival is celebrated annually in December by the Oba and his subjects. It is a combination of nine principal ceremonies during which goats and other animals are sacrificed. The celebrants dress in their finest attire and join in songs and dances.
