If anyone is a hard worker it’s the typical African woman. She hardly rests as she switches on from one tool to another for the day’s work. Sweat will dry up on her, but work must finish. Husbands and children will have time to rest during the day, but hers comes in the night when every member of the family retires for the day’s long heat on a sound stomach. So for Thompson, he breathes it out in this painting for the unappreciated hero the African mother.
